Background HistoryEditJason Todd was a young street orphan when he was caught by The Dark Knight when attempting to steal the tires off of the Batmobile. Bruce Wayne sees to it that Jason is placed in a school for troubled youths after taking him in as his legal ward. Jason earns the mantle of Robin a short while later by helping Batman apprehend a gang of thieves. However, Todd does not wear the Robin costume until after several months of training. Jason grows up as a Robin very different from his predecessor, Dick Grayson, full of rage but also full of potential.
During his teenage years Jason became very dangerous and violent towards criminals, injuring some to the point of near fatality, disobeying Batman's number one rule, feeling that they are scum and they deserve it. Eventually Batman discovered that Jason's mother was still alive, but chose not to tell Jason in order to keep him under watch to control the uneasyness about him. Jason found out himself after searching through Batman's files and stormed out of the Batcave, Jason sought to find his mother and successfully did so at an abandoned wearhouse. It turned out she had led him into a trap, turning him over to the Joker as a way to spare her own life. Joker mercillessly beat Jason to the brink of death with a crow bar then trapped he and his mother in the warehouse with several bombs and detonated them, killing the two. Batman arrived a moment too late and was torn by guilt, feeling as if this was all his fault.
Years later, a member of the Teen Titans named Superboy accidently altered reality, reviving Jason who climbed out of his grave still nearly dead. He was found by Ra's and Talia Al Ghul who bathed him into the Lazurus pit and fully revived him. Jason escaped their grasp but had become changed, enraged further at the world for his death and saught revenge. Jason kiddnapped Batman's new sidekick, Tim Drake in order to reveal himself to Bruce Wayne, that Jason was the new Red Hood, alive and well. Jason told him he had already forgiven Batman for not saving him, but that he was going to control crime and take out the criminals that Batman refuses too.
